The Tip of a Continent

On Tuesday, we went to the Cape of Good Hope Table Mountain Reserve. We found there are in fact three capes: Cape Point, Cape McLear, and Cape of Good Hope. We decided to do the 45 minute hike from the parking lot at Cape Point to the Cape of Good Hope. It was worth it. Without expecting it, we saw ostriches, elands, dassies, and countless lizards, not to mention great views of the ocean. We saw the rock where the Lusitania wrecked in 1911.

Marin and Sophia were troopers on the hike, though Sophia named it as her least favorite part of the day. Here's the sweaty girl on the Cape of Good Hope (with Cape Point behind her and Cape Angulhas behind it).

The great treat at the end of the day was an apparently rare sighting of Cape Zebra, Sophia's favorite animal. (Forthcoming: the story of the baboon attack!)
